WASHINGTON (AP)- A New York man has been arrested and charged with distributing a counterfeit Viagra product on a Internet pharmacy, after the FDA approved the sale of sildenafil (the active ingredient in Viagra) without a prescription.
Robert "Mike" Roush, 24, of Staten Island, was found guilty of the distribution of the counterfeit drug, which is being sold by the man as "Viagra" at the pharmacy.
Roush was arrested by the federal Food and Drug Administration, the FDA said. His arrest was made public Monday after he was interviewed by U. S. Immigration and Customs officials.
Roush's arrest, which was made public, was based on his arrest warrant that was returned with an image of the man's face and a photo of the fake Viagra product on a video conference call he made.
The image, which was posted online in April of Roush's arrest, showed a man walking away from the U. F. D. A. offices, while a warrant for his arrest was returned. The man faces up to 10 years in prison, as well as a misdemeanor charge of trafficking in counterfeit goods.
